Mad as a Hatter

The Mad Hatter “Mad as a Hatter”. Most associate these words with Alice in Wonderland where the hatter’s insanity is typified by his nonsensical poem: “Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder what you’re at, up above the world you fly, like a tea tray in the sky”. Despite the apparent humour, the phrase, “Mad as a Hatter” finds it’s origins in a story of serious human suffering.
